TJ Roszko (b. 2002, New York) is an American contemporary artist whose practice centers around mental health and the complexities of relational experience. His large-scale abstractions emerge through layering, erasure, and reconstruction, each painting negotiating between order and disruption. Within this tension, he finds a sense of tranquility in the midst of chaos.
Living with obsessive-compulsive disorder, he has confronted the extremities of mental health and the weight of compulsion. Painting became his way of breaking those patterns. His process forces openness, teaching his mind that what feels messy, unresolved, or imperfect can still hold meaning. Through fluid mark-making and instinctive gestures, he transforms rigidity into resonance, reframing constraint as possibility.
His sexuality and exploration of identity inform the nuance and layering within his work. The multifaceted dimensions of self are reflected in his process, suggesting that no one ever truly knows another’s full persona, and perhaps not even their own.
He currently lives and works between Los Angeles, CA and Sydney, AUS.
